Campaign Against Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence-SouthShore, known as CAHT, was one of the grant recipients from the Interfaith Council of Sun City Center this June. This is the second year CAHT has been awarded a grant to apply to their safe shelter program for domestic violence and human trafficking victims in the south shore area. This year’s $4,850 award was accepted by CAHT board member and Healthcare Committee chair, Sandra McCaw at the Nearly New store located in Sun City Center shopping plaza. The Interfaith Council provides community grants twice a year to social services nonprofits, churches, schools, and food pantries. “We are thrilled to receive this much-needed funding for our safe shelter housing program this year as the COVID-19 pandemic has displaced more families who are desperately in need of rent assistance or a place to stay,” says CAHT President Annie Garrison. “Our partnership with the Interfaith Council in supporting our marginalized struggling families is key to the success of our mission”, adds Annie. CAHT’s mission is to support the fight against Human Trafficking and related domestic violence issues by providing educational awareness and prevention activities to schools and the community- at- large. The nine-year nonprofit works with multi-cultural groups in providing short-term housing and other basic needs to families as well as mentoring, scholarships, and referral services. They also donate needed funding and/or tangible items to at-risk youth, law enforcement, regional anti-human trafficking nonprofits, and rehabilitation homes and centers. Campaign Against Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence-SouthShore, known as CAHT, received a generous donation of much-needed supplies for their human trafficking and domestic violence victim services program from Arbor Philanthropy Group of south shore, Florida.
During the summer months, CAHT’s Victim Services committee, chaired by Bonnie Doll, starts putting together next year’s backpacks for human trafficking and domestic violence survivors. Last year they gave out over 200 backpacks for male and female youth in the Tampa Bay region. Each backpack holds $75 worth of basic clothing, supplies and accessories, even a small cuddly toy. The backpack orders come from area law enforcement, sheriff’s departments, safe shelters, foster homes, rehabilitation centers and teens-at-risk centers. Arbor Philanthropy Group contributed over $500 worth of new items for the backpacks at their June meeting.
