VICTIM SERVICES MAKES EASTER BASKETS FOR SELAH FREEDOM SAFE HOUSE

Victim Services prepared Easter Baskets for Survivors at Selah Freedom Safe Home.

They filled each basket and then wrapped each one. Then then we delivered them to Angelea Valenti who is the coordinator and in charge of the assessment house for Selah.

We also gifted the girls with clothing and filled plastic eggs for a hunt. Many Survivors have never experienced the everyday ordinary things that we have been granted

Angie tells us “The girls are overjoyed to participate in these activities for the first time in their life “. We are Blessed to be able to give back a little joy to these brave survivors; they are a testimony of what a great wrap around program Selah freedom is. Their success rate is over 90%.

CAHT Helped Provide Super Bowl Backpacks to Created Women Who Are On The Human Trafficking Front Line And Delivered Items To Children’s Home Network

Campaign Against Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence Southshore, known as CAHT, provided 15 backpacks, heart pillows made by CAHT volunteer, Virginia Kimball, and a donation of $200 to Created Women a nonprofit organization in Tampa. The donations were targeted to support Created Women’s efforts during Super Bowl week in helping teens and women escape from  the clutches of human traffickers.  Created Women’s team walks the streets, reaching out to victims caught in sexual exploitation by traffickers.  During the Super Bowl, area law enforcement expected a dramatic spike in human trafficking activity in our region. CAHT is actively involved in supporting the region’s human trafficking campaign to slow down human trafficking by partnering with other nonprofits and law enforcement.  Annie Garrison, CAHT past president, serves on the Hillsborough County Human Trafficking Commission’s Services and Resources Committee that worked on various promotional outreach activities to create a larger awareness about human trafficking during the Super Bowl.  CAHT volunteer, Bonnie Doll, chair of the Victim Services Committee, delivered a $200 donation as well as backpacks to Created Women at the beginning of Super Bowl week, handing them off to Created Women founder and Director, Jillian Penhole.

CAHT also delivered 10 kids and teen backpacks stuffed with animals, clothing, books, blankets, and other essential items to Tampa’s Children’s Home Network Village. The village provides safe homes for young children, pregnant teens and other kids who cannot stay with their parents because of abandonment, sexual exploitation, and other abusive behaviors. For over 10 years CAHT has been providing essential items as well as funds to Children’s Home Network.  Bonnie Doll, CAHT chair of Victim Services with volunteer Ceil Permenter unload their trunk of needed items to Children’s Home Network CEO, Virginia Farmers, on a very cold and windy afternoon.

Spreading Joy  and Hope to Kids!

With the COVID-19 pandemic wreaking havoc on normal summer kid’s activities, Campaign Against Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence (CAHT) jumped at the chance to support Beth-El Farmworker Ministry summer camp program and Bible school activities for kids. Social distancing limited close interaction with the children so Beth-El came up with a great solution in offering drive-by goody grab bags to kids and their families called Cedarkirk Camp at Home Boxes. Each bag or box contained books, jewelry, art and craft items, t-shirts, jump ropes, masks, toys, and wholesome snacks.  Over 60 bags and boxes were handed out Wednesday morning, July 15.  Most of the participating kids are from migrant families and are on scholarships to attend summer camp. CAHT contributed books, crafts and fun jewelry made by board member, Jean Harrison.  “The grab bags give them something to do as well as showing the families and kids that we are here for them,” says CAHT president, Annie Garrison.  “We have a well-established relationship with Beth-El and always enjoy supporting their many programs for families.  Over the last two months we have funded their new Wimauma referral hotline program, school backpacks, and assisted struggling families with rental assistance or domestic abuse related issues.”  For more information about Beth-El Farmworker Ministry, contact MaryEllen at outreach@beth-el.org or call 813-633-1548. May 26, 2020 Fresh vegetables and fruit are gratefully accepted by CEO and Co-founder Laurie Swink of Selah Freedom, Sarasota, Florida from volunteers Bob and Bonnie Doll, of Campaign Against Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence, known as CAHT.  For the last two months Bob and Bonnie have gathered up a variety of fruits and veggies to be distributed to human trafficking survivors at one of Selah Freedom’s safe, rehabilitation homes.  Bonnie, chair of CAHT’s Victim Services Committee, and her team have been distributing basic supplies, produce, clothing and masks throughout the south shore area. “The COVID-19 epidemic has put all of us social services nonprofits, churches, schools and Hillsborough County rushing to provide multiple kinds of tangible items as well as funding for desperate families,  the homeless, and domestic violence and human trafficking victims in the area. We have a long partnership with Selah Freedom and when they call, Bonnie’s team springs into action!” says CAHT President Annie Garrison. For more information about CAHT or donating funds and/or items, please contact Bonnie Doll at 813-812-6355 or email at Bonitadoll2nd@gmail.com.

Campaign against Human Trafficking – SouthShore, known as CAHT, moved into action to support the RCMA Charter School in Wimauma by gathering desperately needed diapers, soap, disinfectants and even coloring books and crayons for migrant families. Like other area schools, RCMA teachers, bus drivers, staff and parents prepare meals for kids and families, and they are delivered to bus stops and other key locations or school pick-up stations so kids and their families at least receive one free meal during the day. Kathy McGill, RCMA school social worker reached out to CAHT for help.

CAHT Donates Tree to Wimauma Elementary School for Arbor Day

Fourth graders at Wimauma Elementary School planted a special Arbor Day tree and read a tree poem called Trees, Trees, Trees.  Principal LeBron-Bravo and the 4th grade teachers organized the tree ceremony in recognition of Arbor Day and Campaign Against Human Trafficking-SouthShore (CAHT) donated the tree.  .  “The tree planting by the 4th graders and Wimauma’s Honor Society is another learning experience in the importance of nourishing our environment as well as ourselves,” says Annie Garrison, CAHT President.  The tree chosen by the faculty is a Southern Magnolia, native to Florida.  CAHT’s volunteers are involved in the afterschool PCAT program for young readers as well as funding school projects at our area local schools.

Yesterday, Feb. 7, CAHT delivered a $500 donation to GulfCoast Legal Services new location in Wimauma at Beth El Food Ministries.

Donations Help Support Local Non-Profit Organizations

“It’s heartwarming how many of our CAHT members recognize the growing demand for basic supplies as the increase in job loss has hit the south shore community.  Financial stress, family displacement, bored kids at home, isolation, and general stress over COVID-19 unfortunately also increases domestic violence problems as well as the recruiting potential for human traffickers and local gangs,” sadly states President Annie Garrison. Partnering with other social agencies and area nonprofits, CAHT is at the grassroots level, offering funding, tangible supplies, mentoring, safe short-term shelter, and resources referrals.  If you are interested in donating funds and/or supplies, please contact Bonnie Doll, Victim Services chair at 813-812-6355 or Robbie Chaplin, vice president, at 319-360-7025. “This is a call to community action and our responsibility to help our struggling neighbors,” says Annie, “most of us can afford to donate some amount and, when in the store, throw extra supplies and diapers into the cart.”  Donations can be sent to CAHT, PO Box 5491, Sun City Center, FL.  33571.

From 2016 to 2018 CAHT-SouthShore was able to help many Tri-County community nonprofit organizations.  Your Donations make this possible.  Here is a list of the many organizations supported with funding, supplies and volunteers:
