CAHT Sponsoring Mental Health Training Class – Youth Mental Health FirstAid
Campaign Against Human Trafficking-Southshore is sponsoring the nationally recognized accreditation course, Youth Mental Health First Aid, Wednesday, January 29, 8-4 pm at the United Methodist Church, Sun City Center, FL. The one-day class will focus on recognizing the signs and symptoms of a mental health issue, what to do in a crisis, and how to connect youth and their families to appropriate care.
Upon completion of the class, attendees will be certified for 3 years. The course is designed for healthcare providers, volunteers, faith communities, schools, coaches, and other nonprofits who interact with adolescents. Participants do not learn to diagnose nor how to provide any therapy or counseling, but rather tools to support a youth developing signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in an emotional crisis. The class is taught by Nanci Nolan, from SEDNET, the Multiagency Network for Students with Emotional Behavioral Disabilities, regional Tampa office.
The cost is $25 which covers the training manual, breakfast and lunch. Teachers and school faculty members may attend for free as it is a mandated Hillsborough County Public Schools’ class. Participants must register by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or 813-938-5660. Registration information needed is full name, participating as a teacher, volunteer, healthcare provider, etc., and phone and email. A check for $25 is to be made out to CAHT and sent to PO Box 5491, Sun City Center, FL 33571. Please put on the check that this is for the Youth Mental Health First Aid Course.
